Thanks
As a matter of history, our country has been in existence for roughly 233 years, governed by our Constitution for about 222 years. But in reality, there have been a relatively select group of people – men and women – who have been fighting for the principles and beliefs upon which this country was founded for much longer than that. And while the fight, we realize, is never ending – as aging resolutions beget ever challenging conflicts – a line of brave men and women continues to form. In a word we call them veterans, but in our lives there is no single word that can describe them all. They are our sons and daughters, they are our mothers and fathers. They are our brothers and sisters, they are our aunts and uncles. They are our wives and husbands, they are our friends and passing strangers. They are our grandmothers and grandfathers, great, great-great, and greater still. Their contributions to our lives, to the freedoms and liberties we enjoy, are endless. And while my words are limited by the number of bits that can store them or the space on a page to write them, I hope that they know – that you know – there is no end to my gratitude for what you have sacrificed for me. Thank you, and happy veterans’ day!
