Sony TouchMan
Growing up, I was always a Sony kid. It took a while before I actually got My First Sony, which was, if I recall correctly, not actually a “My First Sony” line product. As cassette tapes gave way to compact discs, Sony continued along as the premier manufacturer of portable media players with their ever-evolving line of DiscMans. However, since the dawn of the information superhighway, Sony has been little more than a mere hitchhiker along the side of the road while companies like Creative, Microsoft, and market leader Apple sped past them with their far more popular portable digital media players.
It is possible, though, that the engineers at Sony are finally catching up. If this turns out to be the real thing, and Apple really decides to go DRM-free, there may finally be a competitor to battle Apple’s dominance. But probably not. In the meantime, I’ll hold on to my iPod touch.
